In the name of Earth
Episode 6 of the serie In the Name of Nature
What if we gave rights to nature?
In the name of Earth takes you in the footsteps of major thinkers in environmental ethics, Aldo Leopold and Arne Naess, in their quest to move beyond anthropocentrism. This “deep” ecology, inspired by the ecological sciences, leads them to completely rethink how human beings understand themselves in relation to nature. What if we stopped seeing ourselves as dominant and separate from nature? What if we finally recognized that we are deeply connected to it? And what if that led us to value nature intrinsically and grant it rights, as advocated in particular by certain animist Indigenous peoples?
This movie is the sixth and final episode of the documentary series In the Name of Nature, which explores the many reasons for protecting the natural world by meeting leading thinkers and people working on the ground across our beautiful planet. The series follows a round-the-world journey undertaken by the director and her husband in 2016–2017.
